Generous Circle · Championing a cause

Generous Circle championing screens, from finding a cause to a review with funds sent directly

Raising for a cause that already exists

Not everyone starts a fundraiser from scratch. On Generous Circle you can also rally behind a cause that is already listed. I designed the champion path: shorter, focused, and routed so the money goes straight to the cause.

Introduction

Creating a fundraiser is one way to raise on Generous Circle. Championing is the other. When a cause is already on the platform, someone can raise money toward it without setting up a whole new fundraiser of their own.

It is a different job from creating one, so it earns a different, shorter path. The person is not the owner of the cause, so there are no bank details to add, and the review makes clear the funds go straight to the cause.

02

How it differs from creating one

  • It starts from an existing cause, found by search, not from a blank fundraiser.
  • There is no bank step. The champion never handles the money, so the funds route directly to the cause.
  • A motivation replaces the setup detail. Instead of nominating champions, the person says why they are backing this cause.
  • The rest stays familiar, so someone who has created a fundraiser already knows their way around.

The champion path

Walkthrough · Championing a cause

Find it, back it, say why

Five screens: find the cause, look it over, set your own goal, say why it matters to you, and confirm.

  1. 1. Find the causeChampioning starts by finding a cause that is already on Generous Circle.

  2. 2. The causeThe cause you are backing, in its own words, so you know exactly what you are raising for.

  3. 3. Your goalYou set your own target. The hint even speaks to champions, not first-time organisers.

  4. 4. Why you champion itA short motivation in your voice, which donors see alongside the cause.

  5. 5. ReviewNo bank details to add. The funds go straight to the cause, so the review says so.

Recreated for this case study. The original Figma file was lost when its owner's account was closed.

How I led it

As the founding designer I shaped the champion path alongside the main fundraiser journey, so the two feel like one product.

Handoff and adoption

From handoff to a live cause

After design, I handed the flow to engineering, stayed with it through the build, and tested it before launch. To see championing in practice, I ran a real one: a fundraiser for Kenya School of law, raising for students who could not afford their fees. Setting it up myself showed me where the path helped and where it could be clearer.
